What is Hit Chance & The Hit Cap?

Hit chance determines whether your attacks successfully connect with the target. In WoW Classic, you have a base chance to miss attacks against higher-level enemies. Against level 63 raid bosses (3 levels above you), you have a significant chance to miss without sufficient +Hit rating on your gear.

The "hit cap" is the amount of +Hit% needed to eliminate all misses against a specific enemy level. Reaching the hit cap is the most important stat priority for DPS and tanks because missing attacks means zero damage, threat, or effect - making it more valuable than any other stat until capped.

Miss Chances vs Raid Bosses
  • • Melee attacks: 9% base miss chance
  • • Dual-wield attacks: 24% base miss chance
  • • Spells: 16% base miss chance
  • • Special attacks: 9% base miss chance
